Happy Cinco De Mayo! In honor of this non-holiday we are having American-Mexican food and watching Nacho Libre! I had no idea what Cinco de Mayo was so I looked it up and this is what I found on Wikipedia, "The date is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride, and to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the American Civil War. In the state of Puebla, the date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza SeguĂn. Contrary to widespread popular belief, Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's Independence Day, the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico, which occurs on September 16th." Other sites just said it was an alcoholic holiday but since I live in a city that is 58% Mexican I am going to celebrate in style. Wayne thought about growing a Mexi-stash but then we forgot, (oops) so I told him to have a siesta in class to honor the holiday.
Day 32- Thursday, May 5
Read: Mosiah 15-17
Mark-Mosiah 17:11-12
Quote- "You don't need to compromise your standards to be accepted by good friends. The more obedient you are...the more the Lord can help you overcome temptation. You can also help others because they will feel your strength. Let them know about your standards by consistently living them...No one intends to make serious mistakes. They come when you compromise your standards to be more accepted by others. You be the strong one. You be the leader. Choose good friends and resist peer pressure together." ~Elder Richard G. Scott
Question- Why did King Noah not resist the pressure from the evil priests? What helps you resist peer pressure?
Day 33- Friday, May 6
Read- Mosiah 18-20
Mark- Mosiah 18:8-10
Quote- "We show by our behavior what we believe. Surely we are standing as witnesses of God when we sustain his living prophets, especially when we know what it means to sustain. We will abide by the direction and counsel of the prophets. We indeed become witnesses when we make this solemn covenant." ~Sister Janette Hales Beckham
Question- What commitments are part of our baptismal covenant? In what ways do you try to keep those commitments?
Why did King Noah not resist the pressure from the evil priests? What helps you resist peer pressure?
ReplyDeleteHis pride kept him from making the right choice so I know that if I keep myself continually humble that can be my protection also the Holy Ghost will stay with us and he will tell us what to do to resist.
We commit ourselves to really be a representation to the world of our Savior and we always remember his atonement by witnessing of it and keep the commandments this remembrance will keep us safe and give us the confidence to continually testify in just who we are -- A child of God!!
